Read this:

"In 2025, the average NWSL player salary is around $65,000 per season, while the minimum salary is $48,500. "

Are you still surprised, or are you a sentient being?

the top women's players for Lyonnes make a great deal more than that...I thought they were having her train to sign a pro contract, but thanks for using that big work "sentient". I had to look it up.

Going pro in women's soccer is not a smart move if you have other options like Duke or the Ivies or the like. It does not pay well for most. Even when it pays well -- it is for limited duration. Marketing dollars are reserved for the conventionally pretty or whatever kind of edgy is in style.

There may be reasons to do it -- desire -- love of the sport but not the economics of it. To get great comp you would need to get on the national team, become a name, be pretty or edgy, and have a 10 year run. The people that do that are very limited.

This is not the NBA where a drafted player is set for life based on the rookie contract, or a MLB player on the second contract or a drafted NFL player that puts two contracts together. Those people have made a lot of money. Soccer does not do that on the women's side.

Economics dad is back. 💤 🥱 Your tone sucks even if you are probably right. Let the kids dream. Agee Duke makes sense but if it was Bryant U. would it still be a terrible decision to go pro route?

For the record this was never this girls option, hopefully she gets more burn than big sis has at Duke

It's not at all surprising that you didn't know the meaning of a perfectly standard and common English word like "sentient" while at the same time being surprised by this girl attending Duke rather than turning pro

A ha. Mom has joined the thread I see...

If you are correct, it didn't take long.

She does NOT train with the top pro team in France. Your misunderstanding is exactly why PR and marketing exist because people fall for it.

Facts: If you read the words you'll see she is part of a "cultural exchange" program. Cultural exchange means players from France travel here for a week to live with host families, and then later they return the favor and host US players. The families pay for it themselves. They are not selected based on soccer talent. These exchange programs have been going on in high schools for decades and soccer clubs have joined in. It's a great experience for high school age kids to travel abroad and learn from other cultures. But it has nothing to do with being good at soccer.

The French coach and CW are friends. They've done a handful of exchanges. They are great.

You can make more money selling cars than playing women's professional soccer unless you are on the national team. And after you blow your knee out at 27 you fall back on what, club soccer coaching. Get the education unless you just gotta have that chance in a million to be a paid soccer player. Good luck, chase your dream!

Nothing wrong with being a nepo baby. It has its perks. Player with the same last name At Duke has played a whole 5 games in her career.

you realize she's from the Koons family as in the auto dealership family. I'm sure she has connections regardless of the club.

I read an article about a local girl headed to Duke who trains with top pro team in france. We are obviously developing some incredible talent around here, so why is everyone so negative? I'm surprised she is not turning pro instead of heading to college.
