There are also learn to row programs at occoquan, alexandria, Thompson boat center, Capitol rowing club and probably a couple of others.

Most of the public and private high schools here have rowing teams so if your kid likes it this fall, they could maybe do the winter conditioning and then try out for spring. At the scholastic level, it's a spring sport in Virginia.

Thanks so much for this - hugely helpful. One Arlington and Thompson Boat Center are definitely within striking distance for us. And yes - the HS she is headed to has a girls crew program but the culture doesn't seem great - so looking for something fun elsewhere.

Most area hs programs are pressure-cookers at a minimum.

All are too political, with coaches playing favorites as to who gets into the top boats.

I did the learn to row at the Washington Rowing School and really enjoyed it, but don’t have experience with their youth program.

It is a fun and fitness sort of program, not a hard core win all the regattas type program.

My DD is interested in trying crew in the fall. Has anyone tried any of the learn to row programs at the local clubs? Thanks!
