+1. I’d also go back to trusted doctors in other specialities and ask for recommendations. There are many cardiologists and it’s easy to end up with an arrogant AH, but it’s worth looking deeper. (And yes, obviously I have dealt with many for family members).

I see Dr. Catherine Bennet in Chevy Chase. I found her to be knowledgeable and collaborative (and she checked my lpa and apoB, I had already had a calcium scan).

Dr. Lili Barouch is excellent and very collaborative, accessible. The only issue is that she is in Columbia, MD as part of Johns Hopkins. For me the drive is worth it, but it is because my issues are part of an autoimmune condition that other cardiologists were less familiar with.

I don't know what you mean by highly ranked, but lists like Washington's Top Doctors are pretty worthless in terms of how a doctor actually interacts with patients.

I’m happy to pay for additional tests and told him so. The fact that he was very “just do as I say and don’t ask annoying questions” is just not a style I’m comfortable with. I’m looking for a new doctor that doesn’t find my questions annoying.

The fact that he didn’t take the time to explain why he felt that way, and we are here speculating and using the word “maybe” is a sign that he’s not taking the time to educate OP.

The tests may have been reasonable to refuse. The refusal to provide an explanation wasn’t. OP should look for someone new who educates their patients.

I am seeing a cardiologist that is very highly ranked and he may be great, but he’s quite full of himself and condescending. He’s very dismissive of my desire to understand my condition and my labs. I asked to check my Lipoprotein a, Apo B, and a few other things and he refused. He said that that knowledge won’t change how he manages my case.

I would like a cardiologist that is a little more collaborative. I would like somebody who will educate me about my situation and doesn’t make me feel like an idiot.
