Might try something different or might stick with York. I will say that one thing I noticed being in the store is that whatever they are stocking York in now (feels linen-y) looked lumpy and wrinkly and just didn’t seem to hold the cushions very well. I would be concerned about buying that fabric. Having said that, at room and board you can, of course, choose any fabric. I will try to dig up the one that we have and post about it again.

Something I learned from dcum is that people don’t know how to clean their upholstery but please, clean your upholstery. You just need an extractor. Or a shop vac. Get it wet, use a cleaner (I just use very diluted tide), scrub, suck out the water. Maybe go again with plain water. You might need more/stronger detergent for the greasy hand parts. Dawn is fine.

It’s not the fabric’s fault if it’s dirty and hasn’t been cleaned!

I was singing the fabric’s praises, which is why it still looks good and hides wear fairly well. I just think the arms are beyond reclaiming, and yes, not the fabric’s fault. Sorry that didn’t come across. Room and Board recommended Folex for cleaning. It’s what we have.

I would avoid the Metro at all costs. The cushions -- back and seat -- are just terrible. We've done a good job of fluffing and turning/moving them and they started sagging almost immediately. We've had ours for several years and it is STILL leaking down feathers. The stain resistant fabric we paid extra for is the opposite of stain resistant - literally WATER left stains on it. The fabric also pilled terribly after just a couple months. Their customer service is HORRIBLE. I will never buy anything from them again.

Do you have a brand / store you would recommend?

Our 2nd sofa is from La-Z-Boy and it is very comfortable. When we replace this metro (which will be sometime in the next year), we will probably get the Radley sectional from Macy - you can choose whatever fabric you want and it doesn't change the price.

I know everyone on DCUM loves the Radley - unfortunately the measurements are not optimal for our space.

11:41 here again. I’ve looked at the fabrics online and fairly certain our sofa is the Flint fabric in the cement shade.

I bought sofas from Room and Board 20 years ago. The actual manufacturer was a small company in Virginia. I learned all this because it took longer to get the sofas than to have a baby.

My point for today's situation is that it might be worth checking on delivery times and backlog between the two sofas. Especially if they have different manufacturers.

Our fabric has performed well. However, strangely, the non-woven fabric stapled to the bottoms of the sofas is shedding. It was a pressed, Tyvek type material and strings are coming loose from that. However, all things considered, I might actually reupholster these when the time comes. The foam is still firm.

I think it's smart to ask around and compare experiences.

I'm sitting on a metro and wishing i had a time machine. It's not bad but too low for comfortable seating.

Mine is so old (2018) it’s might be irrelevant and I don’t know what the name was, but we got one of their stock poly woven fabric and it looks brand new. The cushion covers have been through the washer and dryer a million times but it’s a tight back sofa so the rest just gets cleaned with an extractor and I see no color or wear difference. It has firm foam seat cushions and the biggest issue is that it’s a pain getting the foam in and out for washing, and I had to have one of the zippers replaced because I broke it jamming the foam back in. But the foam is in surprisingly good shape and will be easy enough to replace.

I think the main thing is to choose a washable fabric with a high rub score (which should be anything they’ll sell you) and if you don’t want to deal with cushion maintenance, pick a tight back and foam fill seat cushions. If you want squishy cushions, it just takes more to maintain them.

I love room and board, and for fabrics I get a bunch of samples and test them with things like blueberries and wine. Pick your favorite fabrics and see what holds up best

Our old - well loved - sectional needs to be replaced.
It is for a small DC basement family space so we do not have a ton of flexibility with what fits in the space.

We have landed on the Room and Board Metro OR Room and Board York.

Any feedback on either of these? Also would love feedback for the fabric types. Kids are older but I still expect popcorn fingers will get on the fabric.

Thanks
