In Kpop there are official parts of songs the audience sings, got to learn your parts before the concert.

Most outdoor concerts are really about the experience rather than hearing the music. It's about partying, finding new cocaine connections, hooking up, the WILD after parties, groupies, etc.

Some are more about the music, but that's the actual music groups, not the rock or pop concerts.

Then there is the symphony. Nothing compares to actual music like that.

I'm GenX and hate audience members being loud at any performance.

You’re the person I hate sitting next to at a concert. I’m a Gen Xer and I think it’s so rude to assume that the people around you want to hear YOU sing instead of the person or group they paid to hear. Sure, there are some songs where it’s understood that people can sing along with the chorus or something but it’s certainly not all of every song.

Depends on the concert. This is when it makes sense to follow the crowd. If everyone is sitting and listening, you sit and listen. If everyone is bouncing and singing their hearts out, join the fun. It’s absolutely no fun going against the general vibe in this situation.

You might get famous! Remember that scene in "Rock Star" when some rando in the audience was hitting all the right notes of the Steel Dragon songs right next to the stage, even better than the lead singer? Got brought up on stage and the lead singer walked. Instant star.

Or you might get ushered out by security. Just hope they don't a bottom rocker'd MC as security!

Performers indicate when they want you to sing sections, otherwise you can mouth along but don't sing. People didn't pay to hear a random person sing along.

I haven’t been to a concert in awhile but what’s the norm now? Sing along if you know the words? If it’s a performer I really love, I want to hear them sing their songs. At a Cher concert, the drunk women near us drowned out every number with their yelling the words off-key. At a James Taylor concert, you could hear a pin drop except when he sang. The Who was typically loud and the crowd was high ( smelled the weed) but people didn’t sing with them ( maybe too mellow). Bonnie Raitt had a few sing-along fans but mostly not.

Does it depend on the artist? I’m dating myself with those examples, so what about the concerts with young artists? What do you do at concerts?
