Racist. Not normal.

I would report this to the Chief Nurse/Chief of Quality, or a head of the ER.

Just tell them your ancestors have been here so long you don’t even know.

Most medications have only been rigorously studied on White Western Europeans.

But I was here last month and they didn’t ask me these questions.

The two new questions that jumped out are:

1. What country were you born in?

2. What is your ancestry?

Right. But we are here for a sports injury/x-ray.

And I’ve been here as recently as last month for myself and they didn’t ask me these questions.

No, ICE isn’t here.

I’m wondering if it’s a new reg that hospitals must comply with…

As we were registering, I noticed a laminated chart on the desk with country codes. It included all countries and languages, and Wales jumped out (the list wasn’t in alpha order).

Fwiw we’ve been in this er a number of times over the last 20 years and I don’t recall ever being asked where I was born or what my ancestry was.

Is this some new MAGA thing?

This is in MoCo btw.

Just asked about my kid’s ancestry after they inquired about where he was born.

Kid was born in the US (so was I snd so was my husband).

All of us have very American names, do not speak with an accent, and do not appear to be anything other than American.

I know why your obgyn asks about ethnicity, but I have no idea why they would specifically inquire about ethnicity at the ER when you are there for a sports injury requiring an X-ray.

Any thoughts?
