New money means you made it if yourself. Generational wealth is inherited. Using "new money" pejoratively is almost as bad as what OP describes.

This sounds like a bit of a straw man or someone who has been watching too much Succession. I have an Uncle a bit like that person, OP. He was miserable most of his life even though he never had to work a day due to inheriting close to nine figures. Wealth doesn’t necessarily make one happy and inherited massive wealth can leave one without a sense of purpose and deeply insecure. I’ve seen this with my Uncle and now my cousins. Some of this is personality. Some of this is how one was raised and how one’s parents discuss money. I tend to look at it as a cautionary tale of what not to do with my own children who inherit a much more modest sum.

Probably mental illness, which comes in all shapes and sizes and socioeconomic brackets.

I know lots of people who come from money (I do too) and I really can only think of one or two people who are as awful as what you’re saying. Both definitely have stuff going on psychologically and/or with their mental health.

I know most people in this situation are humble and it’s usually the people who came from nothing who feel the need to show off (which is understandable). But I don’t get the few who inherited money who also feel the need to show off. It’s weird. It’s not common but I have met several people like this.

I don’t know OP but this is why I find people with money pretty difficult to deal with, which is difficult because I now also have money. I have the presence of mind to at least know that this is mostly due to luck of circumstance. Most really have a problem with internalized superiority.
