It’s crazy because we know they make you sick. Best case they just cause inflammation throughout your body. Also, fake boobs look fake no matter where they are placed or how small they are. Team DH.

I can understand having concerns about the risks of the surgery and side effects. You could consider a consult on a less invasive procedure like a lift without implants.

People can disagree about plastic surgery, but one of you is being judgmental and controlling.

I do think you have to consider how you taking on these risks will impact your family. But tbh to me it seems very reasonable on that front. If you drive when you don’t have to, you’re taking on similar risk of mortality.

So I would say he’s firmly in the wrong - not about plastic surgery, to which he’s entitled to his opinion - but about whether his opinion is so much more valid than others that he can judge people for feeling differently, and about whether this is his call anyway, and about how you should support or approach your spouse if they want to do something you think is dumb.

It’s easy to think someone who went through something you’ll never experience at the cost of their body is “mentally ill” if it saves you a few bucks isn’t it?

Get them, book an aide for recovery assistance, and consider whether this is the only area your husband disregards your experiences.

DH here: the question of breast implants puts a man in a difficult place. On the one hand, he can’t just come out and say “yes, that would be awesome” because that would inevitably be interpreted in a negative way. And it probably is true that he thinks, as I would, “no way that this is worth the risk over a vanity cosmetic procedure; bad things can happen in surgery.” This, I think, is true; no matter how skilled the surgeon and anesthesiologist, there is a small chance you just don’t wake up anytime you go under general. But as PP above suggests, he almost certainly will love them once you get them, especially if you are doing something tasteful and not crazy.

My wife wanted them, I was reluctant to insert myself into the decision as I both thought I'd enjoy them (and thus self-interested) and was concerned about the risks. Also in case she decided against I never wanted her to think her current body was displeasing.

She was adamant and it worked out well.

My husband did not get why I wanted them - similar reasons as you - but loved them once I did. Get them if you're unhappy with how you feel. Just be sure to find a plastic surgeon who does a lot of augmentations and isn't pushing you to go bigger than you want.

I’m 48, happily married with three kids. My boobs have been reduced to flat pancakes after breastfeeding our kids for a total of four years. The youngest is 7 so I think I’ve given my body enough of a chance to “bounce” back and the boobs are just not budging. I’m in great shape otherwise.

I would love to get conservative implants, just so my clothes fit the way they used to. I don’t even necessarily want a bigger bra size, I just want more fullness.

DH thinks this is crazy. He thinks anyone wanting plastic surgery is vain and almost mentally ill. It’s not a financial issue.
