Seriously though, how would you know that I hired someone to help me refine my resume, practice interviewing, and identify relevant postings and action steps? I’m not asking for someone to apply for me or network for me, but give me guidance on what I’m doing right and wrong and coach me through next steps.

Yes, DP here, my school did a virtual appt to help me with my resume thru the career services dept. Very helpful. You need to customize your resume for each job application to include the key terms of the job. Linked in also key.

Clean up your LinkedIn. Reach out to your network. Don't ask for a job, ask if they are aware of any opportunities in your field, not necessarily at their org or company.

My undergraduate university offers career supports to alumni — that, at least in the past, have include 1 free appointment with a local career coach, as well as other resources. If you’re affiliated with a university, check to see if they offer something similar.

Has anyone worked with a job search consultant, particularly if you are at the senior/exec level? I haven’t applied for jobs in 12 years (I thought I’d stay where I am for the rest of my career but DOGE changed that and I’m facing layoff soon) and I feel like nothing I’m doing is working. I need someone who can look at my full package and help me figure out what to do next.
