I like Carrie Soto mentioned, and best non-fiction sports books that I have read are not about women!

Born to Run, Boys in the Boat

I'd add Unbroken to that list, although it is neither a memoir nor about a female athlete. And I loved Carrie Soto.

I'd think some of of the memoirs by older female athletes would be inspirational since female athletes weren't as ubiquitous before Title IX. Billie Jean King comes to mind.

Years ago I read Race Across Alaska by the first woman to win the Iditarod. She’s not the best writer in the world but it’s such an amazing story. It’s basically like a day by day diary of the race with all the details about all the stuff you need to worry about (including how to feed the dogs which is basically your biggest priority). I thought it was a great read.

It's not about female athletes, but I really liked the book A Very Beautiful Thing about a group of students on Chicago's west side who form the first all African-American rowing team in the country.

I've been wanting to read Jordan Chiles' memoir.

I just read and loved Dawn Staley's book, Uncommon Favor: Basketball, North Philly, My Mother, and the Life Lessons I Learned from All Three.
My DD, a college athlete, is reading it now and says it's the best sports memoir she's read by either a man or woman.

Ronda Rousey's was good in the sense that it was very interesting, but not exactly inspirational. Unless you need to be inspired not to raise your kid like her mom raised her!

I have Diana Nyad's "Find a Way" on my TBR pile.

Caitlyn Jenner, The Secrets of My Life

Such an inspiration for what a woman can accomplish.

No. I've read every single memoir an Olympic gymnast (USA) has put out, and they're all awful. They don't know how to tell a story and a large part of it just them reciting scores. So disappointing.

In a bit of a slump and need some inspiration. What are some good sports memoirs/autobiographies you’ve read and would recommend, preferably about female athletes?
