If your child is under age 16 volunteering at many of these places will require a parent to be present.

OP said she'd go with her.

Great American Community Kitchen.

your teen can help hand out free meals. They operate 6 days a week all over Fairfax County. They are a wonderful local charity.

My kids volunteer at a food pantry. They help sort, pack, and deliver food. They interact with adults running/volunteering at the pantry and people picking up food. It started as something to meet school requirements, but DD really likes it and said she will keep volunteering throughout the year.

My girls (12, 14) and I love volunteering for Special Olympics. They both play sports and we try to do one volunteer activity every quarter.

She can volunteer at Hidden Pond, maybe Hidden Oaks if she likes animals, nature, and kids.

Check out Girls on The Run. They are looking for JR coaches. As long as you are good with younger kids, it will be rewarding. My DS loved being a JR coach-loved the littles assigned to her team

Some local rescues may allow it with a parent, but the Fairfax County Animal Shelter requires volunteers to be 18.

At 14 my kids did trail cleanups and made Power Packs for Food for Others (https://foodforothers.org/get-help/power-packs-for-kids/).

I know you probably may not want to drive this far, but check out Fauquier Education Farm. You can volunteer to pick produce. All the produce is donated to the food bank. It could be a volunteer excursion.

County libraries often have teen volunteer programs. My DS did this for his HS service hours and they had a variety of programs, he helped with kids events, as well as adults with disabilities (e.g., board game night).

DD14 says she wants to help people, and expressed an interest in volunteer work. I'd be interested in hearing what volunteer work your DD has been doing in Fairfax County. I will go and do it with her, whatever it is.
