There are hundreds of threads here and in the Health forum for acne tips. Plenty of reading.

For something minor, just use alcohol on some clean cotton.

OP, DS tried a bunch of things, including prescription. What works consistently for him, oddly enough Panoxyl has worked the best.

He needs a new pillowcase every other day, or so. Suggest he let his face air dry after washing and do not dry the face off with a towel (no matter how clean you think the towel is)

If it's bad, go to a derm to try a prescription retinoid (adapalene, tret or taz). They may start on an antibiotic to keep the acne at bay until the retinoid kicks in fully.

If things don't get better, accutane is the nuclear option where they shut down the sebaceous glands body-wide.

But lots of people can manage on tret or taz and don't need to do that option.

If it's not too bad, a skin regimen helps. Salicylic acid is great to slough off the skin cells where acne gets trapped (oil/bacteria) underneath.

DS has acne on nose and chin. Any best practices for managing it? He has some closed comodones as well as full blown pimples.

When (what age) do male hormones stop impacting sebum/oil? He's between 16-17.
