Your kid is mostly competing against other similar students in his high school. So if a similar applicant got a 5, yes that would "hurt." But that said--AP Physics C is a tough AP--I would have respect for a student who got a 4--whether the competition is stronger is not something anyone can tell you for certain, without knowing the high school, and the other applying students.
