No need to get off unless a valid medical reason. Just switch to HRT once menopausal.

Very heavy periods.

Why do you assume pregnancy is off the table? That’s a dumb assumption.

My doctor is having me stay on it until age 52 to help with perimenopause symptoms. Aside from gaining a little weight (I'm 49) I dont have a lot of the symptoms my friends are dealing with so I'm glad I can continue for a few more years.

Are you saying you can't get pregnant because that's definitely not true.

Same here. Shorter cycle, shorter and heavier period. But I'd gone on the BCPs for very heavy periods so it could just be my normal state.

Otherwise, no real difference.

I tried and failed. Horrible cramping - so bad I thought I had cancer and got an ultrasound. Bleeding all month long. And my mood was horrible. My gyno said I could be on it til menopause, and that's what I'm doing.

I was a little younger when I went off it - 40. 42 now, cycles still very regular, but without BCP my periods are quite heavy and I have bad ovulation pains as well.

I starting having a period every 2 weeks -- thanks, perimenopause! I went back on the pill because this sucked, obviously. I also was not worried about pregnancy, but my gyn said it's safe to stay on the pill into menopause.

I'm planning to go off for a variety of reasons (I'm 45, pregnancy is off the table obviously!).

If you were on birth control for a long time, what happened when you went off of it? What bodily changes and experiences did you have? How long did they last?
