It is not a hobby job, it's a profession. Just like nursing is a profession even though you can arrange your hours in many different ways.

But the low pay means most (not all) have a higher earning spouse and therefore a threshold where they can or must quit rather than deal with a too-high level of BS. Low pay / higher earning spouse is why so many teachers quit during covid.

Starting salaries are $50k and max out around $100 after a lot of years. Full time retail is really not any better compared to the low end of the teacher scale.

No, it’s a profession.

My neighbor who works part time doing holiday planters has a hobby job. My other neighbor who is a science teacher at a middle school has a professional job.
