The reason not to include it has nothing to do with gaming the system for admissions. It is to decrease the number of times your kid's SSN is sent out. If your kid applies to 15 schools, that's the Common App system plus 15 schools that could potentially get hacked. They will almost certainly have to give their SSN to the school they're matriculating at, but the other 14 don't need it.

Is this accurate? I read this last year but when DD filled out common app, there was a place to check that she would not be requesting financial aid.
