One teacher or experience does not make an entire district. Mediocre math students should not be in Honors math classes. It’s a disservice to them getting good skills in whatever level class.

And as the PP, if you go this route be prepared for more than a workbook.

DP. I agree it's a stereotype but depending on the school the part about the cohort is not entirely wrong. If you put a mediocre kid in Honors Geometry, be prepared to supplement with more than a summer workbook. Get a good tutor lined up now.

Its a real disservice to students that FCPS refuses to have remedial math courses. Average students should be allowed to take average classes without having to deal with kids who should be in the remedial level and teachers who don't want to be there.

Not to hijack but if anyone has recs for precalculus workbooks or "for dummies" books, please share!

Not a teacher basher but have to agree with this. My dd struggled with honors algebra in 8th and we moved her down to regular Geometry in an FCPS HS. The regular math teacher barely showed up half the time and the classroom behavior was a circus with a few very disruptive students, most of the class was not interested in learning. For a kid who is not a strong math student, it was nearly impossible to learn anything. We had to hire a tutor to basically teach the entire class.
