Just go somewhere else. Truly not a big deal. If you run into her and she says something about not seeing you in a long time, just mention how you couldn’t make the new location work.

I've ghosted several stylists. In most cases I've been fed up with the stylist ignoring what I want. 95 % of all stylists cut off far more hair than I agreed to and I won't tolerate that any more.

I recently switched to someone new at a different salon because the previous person was unfriendly and wouldn't bother to write down the color she used on my hair so the last time I went I got a much darker color I hated.

I ghosted one stylist who was very upset about it. She did great cuts but when I started to color my hair, she did a terrible job. She charged me for a full color but I found out when they had a guest colorist from one of the companies that she had been charging me for a more expensive service while just using a topical temporary color to cover my gray. It never covered my gray and left weird spots. I learned to speak up because of her. I had to go back 3 times in a row after her color treatments because they didn't cover the gray. The receptionist at the salon called me several times asking why I hadn't returned. The people who worked there were very nice but they had to know what she was pulling. I ran into her at another salon and she was spitting nails at me.

I have had so many mediocre to bad experiences at hair salons that I have no allegiance to any.

We ghosted 2 hair stylists that had moved to inconvenient places, dirty places, and gave poor service. They never reached out.
I did write a note to one stylist I had been seeing for 14 years. I hadn't known the last visit was the last until I got home, washed my hair and saw the awful vut he gave me, way shorter without asking me. I thanked him for the years and wished him well. Never heard back but I think it was appropriate in that case.

If she's moved? That isn't even ghosting. That's just choosing not to follow her there.

Ghosting is fine. I'm going to, now that I feel the cost has well outpaced the quality. $100 for touchups that don't leave my hairline roots properly covered, $200+ for basic touchup, trim and blowout, resulting in hair I don't feel good about wearing out after. Just not worth it anymore.

I ghosted mine, and I was kind of surprised that she never reached out to follow up, as a marketing outreach. I guess she has enough clients, so I don't feel bad about it.

My stylist has a personal loft situation. She used to have evening and weekend hours and now she works 4-5 hours in the middle of the day. Since I work, I just can’t make it to her. The last time I went she seemed insulted that she was losing customers and I suggested it might be the schedule and she didn’t seem to think it was. I can’t take vacation days to get my haircut. I’m switching soon.

You are not in a relationship. You are a customer. You can stop going to her. You don’t owe her an explanation.

But should you decide to tell her that it will be her last visit you can be honest with her.

I did it. Similar situation, after seeing her for 5 years nearly every other month, I just stopped going. She moved locations and it just wasn’t convenient/easy for me and I felt tired of the “look”. I thought about sending a breakup message but never did.

I think it depends on how often you see the stylist and the type of relationship you have with them. I’ve ghosted a stylist twice in my adult life, and haven’t regretted it either time. I was only seeing them two, maybe three times a year. One wasn’t very good, and one just had awful energy and I hated being around her (mean girl vibes).

Now, I see my current stylist every 8 weeks and I know a few of her other clients socially. I enjoy seeing her and like my haircut. If I were going to stop seeing her, I think I’d probably tell her I was going to look for something closer to home.

I’ve been going to her for a couple years. She moved to a much less convenient location but is still charging the high previous rates from the nice location. I’ve stuck with it for awhile. But really I also think I just want a change. Is it bad form to just stop going?
