Honest question: Do you want your kid to end up living in FL? That is often what happens with kids who go to a state school OOS.

By picking an Ivy the kid will have a lifelong leg up careerwise and every prospective employer will know the school’s name. OTOH, some employers might be a bit less impressed with USF. I would likely pick a B Ivy grad over an honors college USF one.

What sport and any real NIL $$&s?

What’s odd is that if the kid is getting heavily recruited by USF then one would consider approaching Tulane or Rice which are also in the conference.

Have you considered trying to leverage that?

At an Ivy, he will be able to make six figures starting in IB, and it only goes up from there. The NPV is worth the full pay cost.

Assuming you mean South Florida, it is a gigantic non-flagship public school that is getting run into the ground by MAGA craziness.

This is a no-brainer. Go Ivy. If there was something in between it might be a decision.

What sport is this? Seems to be a very odd pair.

Take it from someone who made a similar decision, kid would always wonder what if.

This^ pretty much is the reason you should go with your 'lower' ivy.

No we would never for mine. They both turned down merit money to go T10.
Not recruited athletes and had top scores so we knew they would excel there. It is a bit different for a recruit that has mid test scores as you say: they will not be likely to be top 25% or even top half. That can matter for many careers. Still though the ivy opens many more doors than USF even for the ones who end up below average

Ivy. On average, the kinetic acceleration you will give your kid vs your other option in any career vastly exceeds the costs deferred by doing the full ride. This is especially true in finance where your kid already has an edge as an Ivy athlete.

You only live once. Go to the Ivy if the kid can handle the academics there while playing the sport.
