Sure. Why not? Not an expert, but I think a lack of a statewide/natl/intl award MIGHT be the weakness. Congratulations. Very accomplished young person.

DP; but one school of thought is that the SCEA/ED round at the ivies is full of all of the athletes and otherwise hooked kids, so the advantage in the stats is illusory, and the strong early pool can put an unhooked kid at a disadvantage.

I think it's hard to paint with a broad brush on this. Certainly, doing SCEA to Yale may not be the right choice for a non-institutional priority kid, but if your child is a male humanities kid, there could be a true advantage in some of the pools. SO ... pick a strategy, just be sure to have a balanced list and assume that you're kid will be among the 95% of rejected applicants to the ivies.

Op here - his school doesn’t do honor roll or have NHS. What to do in this case?

I would encourage applying to Ivies. Think of awards like Honor Roll, NHS, subject excellence awards, etc. to add. You kid has the 4.9/36/Student Gov leadership/part-tome job and pointy interest…. All in their favor. Make sure they write essays that are personal to them. And either fill in the gaps in their application or show a very personal side of them. Good luck!

The stats are qualifying.
Will you be able to pull together a cohesive narrative about your student? What are the student's interests? Is the kid Male or Female?

Ivies are looking for something special, and the grades aren't special.

The stats and ECs are good. But if you are looking to SCEA/ED to an Ivy, don't do HYP unless seriously hooked. Don't do Dartmouth unless you go to a feeder school. Don't do Penn if you are a rando from the mid-Atlantic, unless coming from a feeder school in PA or NYC.

So for Ivies, that leaves Columbia - which is certainly a choice today. And Brown and Cornell, which are the only two schools you should consider for an early app to an Ivy from an unhooked student with the stats.

The great thing about America is that there are a lot other schools outside the Ivies that are great. And where an ED app might be helpful.
