Usually they try the long distance thing.
Then one of them or both of them cheats and drama.
Typical movie script.

Child out. Asking people about their experience or opinion is the point of almost every post on this website.

They got pregnant and got an abortion, then broke up. Good luck, that may not be an option here soon.

What happens to other couples has nothing to do with your kid.

Sadly, they stayed together for four years and then she broke up with him senior year. What a waste.. they were literally a five hour plane ride away.

I actually know a few who got married.

The majority break up during the summer, there’s a percentage he will try to date and then they break up at Christmas.

Christmas freshman year… if they don’t break up, make sure they’re using a condom because that is STD Christmas.

My oldest and his gf (a year younger) were on and off again for about a year.

My middle is about to go to college and is in an incredibly toxic relationship. Crossing my fingers they really break up like he tells me he will. (Not counting on it.)

They're still together. College juniors. Different colleges

Everyone either breaks up the summer before college or in the first semester.

My rising high school senior and his longterm GF have been telling me for a couple years that they are going to get married after college graduation.. Their plan is to find colleges no more than 2 hours apart by public transportation, or where one of them can have a car, so they can visit periodically.

I adore her, but I am not sure what I think of this plan.

If your kid left for college with a serious significant other, what happened to the relationship?
Or if your kid has a serious SO now and is headed to college, do they have a plan? (I hear that some kids "plan" to break up).
In my kid's case, they are going to different colleges next year and they'll be a very long plane ride apart.
