Not PP, but we have a home in Southampton. There has always been riff-raff in the summers . . . but since the pandemic, the crowds have just been insane. It can be really hard to get around on summer weekends, which takes a lot of fun out of being there. It's fine if you're cool with just chilling by the pool at your house, but if you want to enjoy restaurants, nightlife, shopping in town, and the beaches that don't restrict parking to residents, then you're best off going in the off-season.

The Hamptons are crowded and miserable. The only reason the area is popular and expensive is the proximity to NYC and a lot of money. Otherwise they’d be the outer banks.

Social media obsessed city dwellers is the core demographic.

Unless you have a really nice house (and I don’t mean renting one with 10 friends for the summer at an ungodly price) with some privacy, it is stifling and there are about 100x other places to enjoy the summer.

you can fly direct to Hyannis or MVY for surprisingly cheap. There is also a really convenient bus from Logan to the Cape that is not at all unreasonable as part of a vacation plan. Flying to Logan then bus to the cape is certainly probably no more stressful than getting from NYC to the Hamptons, IMO.

This is true. This describes my inlaws, and their alternate itinerary is to fly direct to MVY for a house in Chilmark.

The direct flights from DCA to MVY are a hidden gem! so cheap and convenient.

The Hamptons are unique, for better or worse. Is this for a vacation?
