I'm the pp who digs weeds out by hand. But you're talking about clover? Little white flowers?? Hahahaha!!!

I dig out the ones with big spreading leaves that skill the smaller more carpet-like plants and leave bare patches.

OP here. I am a Trump voted with a weed-filled lawn. Yes, it’s regularly mowed but those weeds with the little white flowers bother me.

I like the idea of throwing grass seed and clover everywhere and hoping it takes.

Who on earth doesn't like flowers? Especially little cute ones enlivening boring grass?

The “little white flowers” you can’t stand are clover flowers. You can’t have clover in your yard without the flowers.

They're clover flowers and beneficial to rabbits and insects. Please don't get rid of them.

An undifferentiated lawn is the outdoor equivalent of a mcmansion greatroom with nothing but a barcalounger and a giant TV.

Mow it all to the same length and no one knows. I’d frankly be embarrassed to have one of those “perfect” lawns. It is a waste of money and ridiculous looking.

I just dig them out by hand. 10 minutes every few days. I keep a weeder tool on the porch and do it when I need to step away from my computer for a bit.

How big is your lawn? If it's too big to dig the weeds out by hand over the course of a few weekends, then it's too big, period, and the weeds are the least of your problems. I bet you have mosquitoes/ gnats.

But if you reduce the amount of grass with some landscaping that includes a variety of plants, not only will you cut down on maintenance time, you'll have habitat for a better variety of bugs. The best way to cut down on the mosquitoes and gnats is to give their predators a home. Plus, it's prettier. Monocultures of grass are way worse for curb appeal than a few weeds.

I know that the time to work on the lawn is in the fall with some maintenance in the spring but I didn’t do that and now my lawn is full of weeds. I didn’t want to use chemicals but I’m embarrassed by how my lawn looks compared to neighbors. What can I do on my own or should I hire someone? Thanks!
