I just posted the so-called "amazing" results for the Class of '25. Many grads will be attending the most notoriously conservative Catholic colleges in the country. That's fine -- to each his own -- but it does say a lot about the political leanings of the student body. I've actually never seen placement quite like it in any Catholic high school around here.

There are many top schools on the list: Naval Academy, Princeton University, Columbia University, Stanford University, Notre Dame, University of Michigan, Boston College, and Emory. ROTC scholarships are competitive as well.

I love that they celebrate the graduate who will train as an electrician.

There is nothing wrong with the Catholic colleges that you turn up your nose at.

The OP should visit the school, talk to parents, and then decide. I think that it’s fine to be more culturally mainstream than most others as long you don’t expect everyone to agree with you. If it’s important for you to see your exact views reflected by the faculty and other families attending, then there are plenty of private schools like that. I don’t think that they are as good with boys though!

We are a catholic family with boys, but pretty socially mainstream- we celebrated Pride Month for example, and while I personally would never have an abortion in accordance with my faith, I am pro-choice in terms of wanting it to be a legal choice for others who don't share my views. Etc Etc.

Would we fit in?? What is the reputation like?

You “celebrated” pride month? What, with cake and cookies? What does that even mean?

It means we put out a flag for the month, and attended a pride festival one Saturday morning. Don't be obtuse.

Yes, you will fit in. It is conservative but you know that already. You most likely won’t have other families celebrating pride etc but our family is very middle of the road. I have never had a conversation with anyone at school events regarding abortion etc.

To the previous posters regarding colleges, many families choose undergrad based on most aid/lowest cost especially for families with several kids.. smart, in my opinion, so they can spend money on grad school, law school and med school.

We are all so lucky to have so many great school options in the DC area! If you don’t choose the Heights, the other Catholic schools are all fantastic. Good luck in your school search.

Imagine spending all that money and ending up at Franciscan University of Steubenville or Maryland?? I’d disown my kid.

Well yeah, I figured that. I was just trying to paint a picture as to how socially moderate we are as a family and if the fact that my own kids believe in gay marriage and know that their parents vote for pro-choice candidates, would mean they felt like outcasts

Not trolling! But it seems the consensus is it's too conservative for us. That's fine.

I've listened to some of their podcasts and was truly impressed with the boys they raise. They exhibit all of the qualities I would want for my child while being exposed to a rigorous curriculum. I'd definitely suggest you look into it. Logistically, it can't work for us unfortunately.

These are not "amazing" placement results. They're fine, sure -- but they are not "amazing."
