You don’t have to put your actual number. Make one up.

That's lying!

They’re starting to scam via group text, so now you have to go the extra step to leave the conversation before you delete and report the message, lest you want your phone blowing up from strangers replying “stop” and “unsubscribe”

You need a call screening service. My phone provider has one. I get about 1 spam call a year that manages to slip through.

Just remember that the Telecom corporations could easily stop this scourge by refusing to allow spoofed numbers but they won’t do that because they make money off of the scam calls. People are too scatterbrained to focus on that key point though so it will never be fixed.

This. Ignore and block. There are other ways to contact you if it’s legit.

Don’t change your number because your next number will be the same one that some other person cancelled because of the same reason and you will end up getting all of THEIR spam calls!

If my phone rings or I receive ten text messages a day, five are scams, and they are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Today, I received a text about tickets from Maryland, saying that prosecution will follow if I don't pay (I don't owe any tickets). In another call today, I got a voicemail about a civil complaint being filed. This one is almost believable, except they didn't say which law firm they're representing, and the number on the caller ID is different from the one they asked me to call back. When I looked up both numbers, I found that they were potential scams.

Sigh. I've had this cell phone number for as long as I can remember, but I’m getting tired of the constant calls and texts. Should I think about changing my number or just keep ignoring them? I don't have any debt, and no one should be trying to sue me. But my biggest worry is ignoring something that might be real.

How are others handling these kinds of calls? It feels like a spike in the last two weeks or so.
