I agree with what others say about NYU athletic facilities. Depending on the sport, the facilities aren’t close to campus and you will spend a ton of time just commuting to practice and games.

You need to factor that into the calculation.

What sport? For some sports, NYU's facilities are nowhere near campus so your child will be spending a lot of time traveling.

I would visit both. I love NYC. But it is not for everyone and NYU is a very unique college experience. Being part of a team creates instant community. But NYC is a huge city, while CMU is more of a traditional college experience.

To that point, meet the people on the team at both schools. Your child will be spending a lot of time with them. Make sure they fit into the team culture.

That is such a myth about CMU. DH is an alum, one DC graduated and another attending. 3 different major paths, but all love their time at CMU. It is a tough school, no doubt. But the community is extremely supportive, not cut throat at all.

Having said that, for a finance minded student, I would have to vote for Stern over Tepper, although there are plenty CMU Tepper kids and CS kids end up on wall street. Being in Pittsburgh doesn't mean you don't get these opportunities.

My daughter was interested in finance and thrilled about her Stern ED 2 acceptance. In case you are wondering, got 3.94 ugpa, 1580, and lots of standard ECs, with leadership roles though.
