Agree, actually think ecs are super important at USC and they were turn down a higher stat applicant for one with well developed ec interest.

Sure there is; it is the bar that you need to jump to get into the pool. Overall high scored don't offer a real edge anywhere among the truly top schools. They are a filter but not an advantage.

My observation in our school, may not be universally true.

I noticed some of the SLACS seem to focus a bit more on test scores than GPA, per Naviance. UMD also likes high test scores, perhaps due to the grade inflation in MCPS.
