Disagree. Our oldest DC attends a middle of the road FCPS HS. Academically it’s been fine although class sizes have steadily increased and there’s not much individual attention. Socially it’s been rough even as a bystander. DC has witnessed multiple fights, there’s a lot of disruptive behavior even in Honors classes, bullying is a serious problem and DC refused to go to the bathroom in 9th and 10th grade because there’s always kids fighting vaping and doing other things they shouldn’t in there, and there have been some concerning safety incidents that weren’t handled well.
Lesson learned. Youngest will be going private. Much smaller class sizes and no tolerance for disruption and violence is worth it.

Some of these schools are so expensive so makes me wonder return on that compared to fcps

OP probably would prefer a real school.

Adding to the above, Madeira. Entirely not religious, single sex and an extraordinary program.

Potomac, Flint Hill, Episcopal, Highland or Foxcroft if you're willing to go outside of Fairfax.

Potomac is the top independent in that area, but it’s hard to get into for 9th

^sorry, just reread and saw you’re looking for HS, so disregard Congressional, obvs.

Are you looking for a k-8 or do you want something that goes to 12?

Depending where exactly you are, Congressional is Falls Church is great, if k-8 is ok.

Consider SSSAS - the religious aspect of Episcopal schools is much more mild than the Catholic schools.

Unhappy with Fairfax public schools so debating applying for private high school options for DD. Would prefer something in Arlington/fairfax than DC - are there non religious options? I see several catholic schools.
