I've had this happen a few times over the last couple of years as well. It doesn't happen often, but it does still happen. I wish I could remember where, but I don't -- I travel a lot for work.

This is true, but I've never had it where it has to be the card that the room was booked with. Just *a* card.

I travel often on someone else’s CC, and most hotel chains just email the receipt to the email provided at check in. Just heads up, they may need to swipe the physical card (or a card) at check in for incidentals. Some brands, the receipt can be seen on the TV in the room.

In my experience, they rarely print a receipt anymore. You can request one be printed at checkout, but typically they’ll just email the receipt to the address they have on file.

Did you prepay? I've reserved with my card but then the other person gives their card at check in and their card gets charged.

In the US they will be asked for a credit card at checkin. Even if the bill is already paid, the hotel will take a card and put it in file in case of charges or damage. The person sometimes has to initial an agreement with the price, though not always.
