I’m not comparing math to sports. I actually think it’s better to do physical activity when you’re young. If I had to push my child I’d push them for sports, because it’s a health gain.
The point I made was for other sedentary activities, such as reading for example. Tons of parents would rather have their child read excessively then do math. They are all ok with taking AP English or AP history or AP psychology, but lord forbid if they could take multivariate calculus.
They somehow feel that it’s better to do all those other things and not math.
It's mostly an American phenomenon.
Almost anywhere else in the world math is pretty front and center. But Americans seem to feel like math kills childhoods or some silly shit like that.
