We were definitely told earlier this spring that our school will be doing Model 1. The letter also said that the class would "use an accelerated pace compared to grade level peers, as well as literacy enrichment inside the ELA block and outside of the ELA block during Focused Instructional Time."

Which school?

That's Model 2, though. Model 1 would be cohorted, I thought. This sounds like they are offering "enrichment" in a mixed ability class, which is Model 2.

No — model 2 doesn’t use the accelerated pace. It is only enrichment add-one to regular pacing.

Model 1 is accelerated pacing with enrichment on top of it.

How could they do "an accelerated pace compared to grade level peers" for the ELA block for enriched kids while in a mixed-level class? I don't understand how that would work logistically.

Model 1 uses CKLA — accelerates to cover one addition unit and offers enrichment throughout. It does not use ELC, though some enrichment might overlap with ELC.

That said from the quote you provide it doesn’t sound like it has to be model 1. Can you post the whole letter?

Interesting. Who sent the letter—your principal or AEI?

Our school is doing Model 1, and we got a letter in the mail for our rising 4th grader. It says "Students will use the Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) curriculum and engage in inquiry-based tasks, novel studies, research projects, and extended learning opportunities." (Also says the class will be accelerated and there will be enrichment both during the ELA block and FIT time.) Anyone with familiarity with ELC know if this fits with any specific aspects of ELC that might be brought over to the new model?

Also I'm curious if other folks got a letter or email describing literacy enrichment (either model 1 or 2) at your school and how it was described.
