I wish I had your confidence. OP very likely will be fine. But the concern for a low likelihood issue at the border is valid under the new administration, even for US citizens (but admittedly much less likely).

I was once pulled aside for a brief inspection at the US-Canada border. It was "open your trunk", a minute of questions, and move on. That sort of thing is the way it used to be if you had bad luck. Now you could go down a very stressful road if you truly get the wrong agent on the wrong day.

If you have a US passport and are visiting Canada, you can use it up until the expiration date. The six-month rule doesn't apply.

I hope you’re OK. I’m also a naturalized citizen but from a less “contentious” country and have recently traveled with no issues. Not sure how having your naturalization certificate with you will help - immigration officers aren’t going to doubt that part of it since you obviously already have a US pasport.

What? The US-Canada border has no requirements other than a valid passport for US and Canadian citizens

I’m a naturalized citizen born in the FSU and had no issues returning from Europe a few weeks ago. I have GE and didn’t interact with any “live” person on entry.

You will almost surely be fine. Global Entry absolutely helps. But it's reasonable to be cautious and ready to be hassled a bit if you draw a really bad officer. But that's why GE is helpful, because they have so much less interaction with you.

Going to Canada in July. I'll have my US passport that expires in February (need to renew soon). I'm naturalized, so it says my place of birth is China. I also have Global Entry, if that matters.

Do I need to bring any other docs to "prove" my citizenship to get back into the US? I can't believe I'm even asking this, but with things the way they are, I just don't know.
