It depends on what she's into. You could arrange it at a show or in Central Park, at a fancy dinner, on a boat cruise, at the Met, etc etc.

Imho people cheering for you add to joy. If so private then why bother with NYC, a quiet park in your hometown is as good.

Stop w the trend in front of a bunch of strangers..

Find a place that’s meaningful to you both..

Disagree. DH and I are both private and not attention whores. He proposed in Rockefeller center. Both of us loved the cheering afterwards. It was personal and meaningful to us. I also love seeing proposals in public. Quite a few of my friends were very disappointed by their proposals where the guy basically just handed them a ring in their own apartment.

Although, of course, it depends on the preferences of the person you're proposing to. You also need to make sure she will say yes if you do it publicly.

Know what she likes. I hate red roses, for example.

My brother planned it out and proposed on the corner where he had his 1st kiss.

Unfortunately - there was a dumpster there at the time of proposal and not quite the feel he was going for.

I was proposed to in a VERY busy touristy area, and I was so uncomfortable with everyone gawking and making comments, snapping pictures, asking if we wanted them to email us pictures (this was pre-iPhone). It ruined the entire mood.
