DS just finished freshman year and didn't join a fraternity. He had a great year! He hung out with some club sports teams (he isn't a member), some of his dorm hallway guys, attended some clubs, and even got invited to frat parties, which I thought was interesting. I didn't think the frats invited anyone but girls.

DD just graduated and intentionally avoided Greek Life. Zero issues and she loved JMU.

My son is going to be a senior at JMU who does not drink and is not in a frat. He loves JMU and has many friends and hobbies. He is active on campus and is a teacher advisor.

JMU has something for everyone. I say go for it.

JMU absolutely does have a very healthy Greek life

Sure, but it’s only 20% - which is a good thing.

Intentionally didn’t join a fraternity. Zero interest. Graduate of a large FCPS HS. Played several intramural sports and thru these teams, forged great friendships immediately freshman year. Ended up with same close friends as roommates- later off campus all four years.

+1
I could have written this. Two of my sons went to JMU (one is a rising senior) and neither had any interest in Greek life. Too many other activities to be involved with! JMU is only 20% Greek. The vast majority of students are not affiliated.

Is it doable? If your JMU kid isn't preppy/fratty, what has their experience been like?
