I have the same concerns about my mouth guard which I've worn nightly for 10 plus years.

This. Adults find braces cute. It's only young kids who think they are nerdy or dorky.

Braces on an adult woman will draw men like bees to sugarwater.
Even braces on an adult male can be quite cute. Shows he is not insecure if he flashes that metal smile.

I posted about this above — you can have metal braces but will probably still need to wear a platic retainer every night (forever) once you have finished the braces.

Yes, so ask about alternatives (permanent retainer) and materials (BPA and phthalate free)

Adding on. While some is for looks, I got braces to avoid having damage to my teeth. They were crowding together - causing pain and making it harder to clean between them.

Not in your situation but I have similar concerns about my kids who have both gone or are going through regular braces. When you finish braces, almost every orthodontist will instruct you to wear a retainer every single night overnight for the rest of your life. The retainers are also plasticky like invisalign. I questioned how safe the retainers are and was assured they are BPA-free but that doesn’t account for all the other stuff that could be in them. I don’t like it at all but it is what is it is. That said pretty most kids in the DC area are likely to wind up with retainers after braces — if they don’t wear them, more braces could be needed down the road.

Anyone have concerns about wearing plastic in their mouth 22 hours per day for several months? Do the liners shed plastic bits?
