You seem nice.

I like my famous people to be hot. I won't apologize for that. Regular people? As long as they're nice they can be as ugly as they want.

Unless you are in your 20s, why do you need them to be hot? Don't ogle people. It's gross, especially when you are likely old enough to be his parent.

Can you do a flip off a piano in front of a huge crowd?

I sure could when I was his age.

He's very talented and actually has written a lot of great songs. No idea what those so called critics are saying, but I enjoy listening to his music.

I love “Pretty Slowly” from his first album. And yes, Beautiful Things. Haven’t listened to any of his other work though.

The WaPo article is paywalled, but the other two sound like a lot of whinging from people who can't do so they critique. Both note the dude has talent and skill and is making more than just formulaic pop pap... but they apparently want him to pay their bills and scrub their loos, too.

Dude is 22, with a rather remarkable backstory and a top single. The album may not be the most noteworthy, but it's not like it does him a disservice. It's a solid start from an artist with a lot of potential. The need to cut him down like this says more about the critics than the album in question. They're negging him because his album isn't what they were expecting, even though what makes him noteworthy is his penchant for not conforming. Sounds like the critics need to catch up.

Curious to read what albums/artists impress these reviewers. And no, I'm not a stan.

I haven’t listened to his album and don’t intend to. Obviously I’ve heard Beautiful Things over and over again though. A critic recently referred to him and other similar artists as “Voice Audition Music.” Basically big, grandiose yet ultimately formulaic songs you would sing if you were trying out for The Voice or American Idol and needed to impress the judges in 20 seconds.

His album is basically getting universally trashed by critics, but what do you think? I personally don't like his music at all and agree with the general sentiment of the reviewers.
