The appearance has grown on me. But if you’re looking at Rivians, you’re at a higher price point than I was.

In theory, we are just a couple of years away from massive breakthroughs in EV technology. In reality, that may never get to the U.S. thanks to Trump. If you want to move to an EV now or in the near term, there are plenty of good choices. But we would need to know more about what you are seeking. What kind of styling do you prefer? What is your budget? Do you intend to buy or lease? Do you need to be able to go long distances (and if so, how long) or do you only need a commuting and around town car? Can you install a home charger?

The X3-size full EV from BMW should be on the market at the end of this year as a 2026 model. It may hit the sweet spot for many in terms of size, performance, and features, although it won't be inexpensive.

Most of those, except oil changes are 5 to 10 year intervals. In EVs you still need tire rotations so it still needs to go to the shop about the same. The savings in the other things are eaten up by more frequent tire replacements. You'll save a little, but not the added cost of the vehicle.

I did like the Volvo c40. Tesla model 3 (but won't buy Tesla). Rivian is SUV is OK but don't like the headlights, and it's too big. Audi etrons q4-q8 are ok, but everyone I know who has ever bought an Audi has hated them due to maintenance costs and reliability. New Honda prologue looks nice, but received mediocre reviews.

You will get a good deal on a Prologue, and if you feel comfortable with the Honda dealership, then you should have an okay experience there. Make sure you work with one that has sold more than a few EVs.

Are you planning to buy and hold or lease? Leasing can be financially stupid at times but EVs are going through a period of technological change. If you are a low mileage driver, it might actually be a good bridge to the future.
