Couple folders and a binder, or couple spiral/composition books and folders. Pencils, Pens, Highlights. Graphing calculator. Physical or Digital Planner/Calendar. School provides Chromebook.

Thanks all. My kid is ADHD as well so she will need some method of keeping herself organized; that is def not a strength for her.

First year, we just bought small perforated notebooks for each class and separate folders and mid-year kid wanted to switch system so we did. Last year we kept with the new system as we will for fall.

HS does not have school supply lists.

My kid just uses folders for each class and a few spiral notebooks.

Also of course pencils / pens.

Might need a graphing calculator for math if you don't have already.

I never bought anything for JS until after
School started. They used their binder from the year before and took a pen. Once they figured out what they needed we’d go to Staples or they’d add it to the Amazon cart.

Every teacher will tell the kids on the first day of class. I know, they should tell them before, but that's not how it works. My oldest had a huge binder with tabs where he put his things, but he never purged and at the end of the year it was just too much. I prefer my second's organization, where she has a lightweight notebook for some classes like math and science, and several folders for stray papers, that she regularly cleans out. So you need that stuff on hand, and then your kid will see what each teacher wants and what he prefers.

Oh, and I highly recommend a paper planner. My oldest got used to using one, and still uses one in college. My second has so far refused, and has missed some assignments because she forgot to write them down somewhere. Usually kids can rely on every teacher adding assignments and due dates in their portal, but sometimes the info is wrong, or changes at the last minute, and she got burned a few times. It's really helpful to kids to visualize their week in planner form, so they can spread out their homework, add their extra-curricular activities, chores or anything else they need to do.

In my experience at the high school level, and my kids weren't at WJ so it could be different, there are no generic lists. Specific teachers sometimes want something specific. So, the bio teacher might want a 1 inch binder, or the ceramics teacher might want an oversized T shirt to protect clothes, or the orchestra teacher might want 3 folders, and the math teacher will almost certainly want a specific calculator, but you won't know that until the first few days of school.

I would send them with a pencil case with a couple pens and pencils and highlighters, and a cheap binder with some paper on the first day, and then wait for further instruction.

New to public high school here — are there lists of what kids need for high school that come out over the summer?
