I have a child that is very much like yours. Very STEM, writes like a mathematician, even his Mother’s Day cards read a bit like a mathematician paper

Kilmer AAP was fine. We also did AOPS for both math and LA, but in hindsight it is better to engage with a writing class/writing tutor, as the AOPS classes don’t necessarily go into that. Also keep in mind, kids take a couple of years of HS English and History before starting IB, so there is more build up. but overall i find they don't write enough in school. IB SL English wasnt any trouble for my kid. But the most serious writing happens in History, and it's more than writing - they need to do analysis - and meet the IB rubrics - which is what makes it more challenging.
