I have a child that is very much like yours. Very STEM, writes like a mathematician, even his Mother’s Day cards read a bit like a mathematician paper Kilmer AAP was fine. We also did AOPS for both math and LA, but in hindsight it is better to engage with a writing class/writing tutor, as the AOPS classes don’t necessarily go into that. Also keep in mind, kids take a couple of years of HS English and History before starting IB, so there is more build up. but overall i find they don't write enough in school. IB SL English wasnt any trouble for my kid. But the most serious writing happens in History, and it's more than writing - they need to do analysis - and meet the IB rubrics - which is what makes it more challenging.

Title says it all in my question, I am especially interested in kids who did middle school during/after the pandemic, when there are a lot more screens. I am wondering with all the screens in the instruction and homework whether the kids are adequately prepared for the writing intensive Marshall classes. I know that Marshall prepares them to try to get the IB standards, but wonder if kids coming from Middle school honors or AAP are in good shape coming in. I have a child who is not a natural writer, so I am just worried that he will have a bumpy start, although I might look at some camps or AOPS to prepare him. Well, our context is specific to Marshall, would be curious for any insights for people coming from a middle school honors or AAP transitioning into more rigorous AP/IB high school courses, whether their writing seems up to par.
