I find this very confusing and little to no difference in final product. I grew up not washing. I try washing it now but at this point it seems a waste of time.

Always, not only does is wash off some on the metals and other chemicals and dirt, but it tastes much better washed

Always. I'm from a "rice culture" (India) and was taught to wash and stir and squeeze and rinse the rice until the water is clear.

Have never washed rice, 56 years old and home cook the vast majority of of meals for our family of 4 (now 2 most of the time, as the kids are in college).

Always wash it. Helps reduce arsenic & other heavy metal content too.

Depends on the rice. If I want the rice to cook up with the individual grains separated (like basmati) then I wash until the water runs clear, to get rid of the excess starch. But if I'm cooking a risotto, I won't rinse the rice.

I’ve always been told to but recently watched a video on making Mexican rice and the lady said she has never washed rice.
