The good part about it being open is that now you get some of the best club kids especially at the younger age groups to compete alongside and against.

For the commenter with the "inherently racist" comment, save it... Worry about the fact that any demographic feels the need to do it due to being excluded from other events. We've taken a game that requires the bare minimum equipment and turned it into a money grab.

Technical trainers trying to put together super teams and then sending parents a bill for several hundred dollars to participate in the tournament isn’t a money grab?

This is essentially what it has become, a showcase for technical trainers. Lots of promises of being seen but no one is doing any scouting there.

We got a chance to guest play, and I think this was the over riding factor to not play. Also, I wish it was not over the 4th of July weekend. We have so much stuff goin here already to drive down for some games with kids/ families we don't know. It looks fun though! Perhaps if it was on another weekend.

Talento is lots of fun. Great chance to play with and against kids they dont usually. Fun atmosphere and lots of great food.

Beware of the parking and entry fees, and the schedule not being posted until the day before.

My sons have played for the past two years. It's hot but fun with good competition. Lots of Latino kids, but open to anyone the schedule always runs behind as a warning.

My son did this last year. So much fun to watch. Kids were from all over, including DC United kids. Yummy empanadas for sale too.

Never heard of this until a couple of years ago when some of my DDs teammates were asked to play. They did and enjoyed it. They played again earlier in the Spring and I believe will be playing in July again as well.

I’ve noticed an uptick in cups labeled ‘talento’ recently. Money grabs?
Also, any creation made solely for a specific demographic is racist inherently. Could you imagine a cup for only blaks?

They’re not limited to that demographic. Ds is not Latino and regularly invited to those events. Just have to be good .

Raising the level of play does serve the original purpose of giving talented players a forum to compete and be seen.

Lmao no one is co-opting anything. Everyone is welcome, but can you play? It’s just a game take a breath, play with some joy and you never know…
