Not at all the case all the time. We are paying $75/night less for our summer rentals (mix of beaches/cities) in Europe than for one near a national park last summer. Food is cheaper also. Net travel cost is almost exactly the same as last years trip- flights about $300/person more.

Except that I refuse to spend a penny in any state that voted for this disaster. I’d rather pay more and visit kinder places.

Tell me about it, I live in Europe 😂 It absolutely sucks. I have to pay for certain things via transfer and it's really heartbreaking to see the amount go up and up and up over the past 6 months, where I'm now paying so much more for the same price in USD ☹️ Just last October/November it was sooooo much cheaper

The exchange rates shifted substantially when the tariffs were announced and have remained consistent since then, so early April.

I booked our August flights for Switzerland in January and rates were around 1 eu = 1.04 USD and now it's 1.14 USD. But I also remember when the eu was in the 1.20+ territory so I am not complaining too much.

In mid May I accepted it was unlikely the rates would shift back into the USD favor and started looking at our trip logistics. I discovered some of the hotels we'd booked back in January-February via booking.com were offering discounts so I canceled the original bookings and rebooked at a nicely lower rate. That alone made up most of the differential.

For those still planning trips, it's noteworthy that airline flights are still cheap (for this time of year). You can still get round trip tickets to Switzerland in August for under $700, pretty much the same or even slightly less that we paid in January.

Shopping in France isn’t really worth it, especially if you have to declare customs. And another reason we can’t get tourists

No back in May.

The closest it got in May was 0.9 while it was 0.97 back in February.

We are traveling in about a month to Europe and the dollar has plummeted. This sucks. A month ago it was nearly 1 to 1. Now it’s $1 = 0.87 euro
