But if appropriate: cash or check is always preferred by my kid, nieces, and nephews. Venmo or Zelle are also good

If you don't know what the kid likes, i wouldn't give a gift card. Just give cash so they can spend it as they please instead of being stuck to buy in 1 store.

This is so dependent on what the kids likes are.
If they’re leaving home or going somewhere, Target or Walmart might be good too.
