Sorry I wasn't clear. My kids have to be at the meet at 5:30. They start the national anthem at 6pm. I leave work at 4:30, but I get in at 6 or 7am, so it's definitely a full day. DH leaves work at 5.

Many feds in my office work 6-2:30 or 7-3:30. There are very few people here past 5pm since we aren't supposed to be working extra unpaid hours and they're looking closely at our timesheets.

I have worked all kinds of different schedules during my kids' summer swim time. But when we've had camp and evening weekday meets, all those things were packed in the car in the morning, so we went straight from camp pick up to the meet. We didn't go first. We also generally carpooled and so it was 1 out of 4 or 6 parents who had to leave that early. The other parents could arrive later.

Then you hire a babysitter. This isn’t rocket science. People have been doing this for years and somehow manage to figure it out.

Relax. I’m PP you’re responding to. I don’t have a dog in this fight. My kids are older and driving to swim team now. When they were younger, local grandparents helped as well as we hired summer nannies.

I was only reacting to the comment about 5:30 not being a “struggle” to get home from work by. At my current employer, it would be a struggle.

Same way people did it before WFH was a thing. Rush around or hire summer sitters etc.

How are you guys dealing with the RTO woes?

I am in the office 5 times a week, but thankfully my husband’s agency has had no choice but to make staff work from home due to lack of office space.

I am taking some PTO on Mondays to help out with meets. I miss my kids, but it is what it is.

What are others doing? Want to get an idea in the event we have to do it next year. Get a summer nanny? Oh lord!! I thought I was done with that phase!
