Keens are just fine for outdoor camp (mine wears them to Valley Mill and has for years). And, kids usually have fun outdoors in the rain (unlike us adults who have an aversion to it).

I don't send my kid to these camps because I hate being out in inclement weather and my kids do too (especially heat, more so that rain).

That said, a lot of kids love these camps, it's all about the type of kid. And some parents want to expose or encourage that for their kid which makes sense too.

A lot do have indoor space but their approaches vary. Yes you just have to ask.

I would prefer crocs or keens in the rain. They will dry when it stops. I wouldn't send my kid in socks and shoes that will get drenched.

The camp should have communicated with you as each place does it different. Some have access to indoor or covered spaces. Some dont.

Keens are designed for exactly this OP. He’ll have wet feet and he might get wet if you didn’t send a raincoat. He’ll be ok though.

His shoes are fine.
He’ll get wet, he’ll be ok. He won’t catch a cold from being wet.

Omg...but I see kids wear them hiking and running around. I have seen sending my kids last few years in these shoes to kick ball and playing basketball in these water sandals. They go to pool in and out easy to take off/dry, and I thought these are perfect shoes for outdoor camps.

Op here. There are land/water shoes with holes on the hole/sides but they are closed toes. Do kids go to camp in socks and sneakers at outdoor camps? It is muddy and wet everywhere. Those are like water sandals. I forgot to ask upon drop off.

Why didn't you ask at drop off?

They usually have a picnic shelter where kids do crafts and art projects, singing. Depending on age they will read them a story. Some games that can be played in that setting. Stringing beads, making friendship bracelets etc.

Second you send him in a rain coat.

Most outdoor camps have plans for rainy days, they are not going to have kids out in the rain, getting drenched. Then again, some of my favorite time at camp was running around in the rain, it felt adventurous and so out of the norm that it was amazingly fun.

It is first time that we sign up kid for outdoor camp, and it is expected to rain this week. I have dropped him off in the rain and it is chilly wet. I think his feet is wet because of all rains and he wears water shoes with holes in it. I don't prepare well for rainy outdoor day What do kids do today? How do I prevent him catching a cold?
