My kids both just used Ibuprofen and were fine. Maybe 2 doses for each? Second day they did not need anything.

I wouldn't do exparel. You don't want your mouth to be that numb after you'll end up chewing on your tongue or cheek if you try to eat. The pain from extractions isn't that bad that ibuprofen and tylenol can't cover. Only use opioids if necessary and at most this will be the 1st day after numbing wears off.

You need IV sedation.

Same as 7:45- never filled the opioid rX with 3 DCs having had wisdom tooth extraction. None of them needed anything more than the extra strength Tylenol/Advil.

My son had the exparel-he did great. No idea if it made a difference but he was relatively pain free-maybe took Advil a few times. I will get it for my 2nd child when they are ready.

Similar experience with 18 y.o. DD. Her surgeon also no longer prescribes opioids for wisdom teeth. I wouldn’t say there was no pain, but it seemed well controlled with extra strength ibuprofen and Tylenol. Hers were also impacted.

Although I had a script for an opioid pain killer, I never filled it for either of my kid’ wisdom teeth removal. Tylenol + ice managed their pain well.

My 17-year-old got her wisdom teeth out during spring break. We chose exparel because it would last longer than the regular numbing. She was not conscious for the surgery but after she woke up, she was able to go home 1 hour later - they just had to make sure she could walk on her own. She slept the rest of the first day, but was eating real food by dinner time on the second day.

To be safe we did do the Motrin – Tylenol cycle of pills for about 48 hours (when she was awake) but she never needed anything stronger.

My older daughter had wanted us to record her younger sister while she was “under the influence”, but she with exparel, she was pretty sane the whole time

We did get it for my daughter. She never needed opioids (though the first night was still hard). She had mild pain the first 24 hours and then no pain after that. We plan to use it again for our son.

if you don't have addiction issues, you'll be fine taking opioids. I have an addictive personality, was prescribed 20 Oxys, and took a total of four.

Not sure that this is what was used on my DC but she got something into the anesthetic that I had to pay for out of pocket. It worked and was worth it. She had 4 teeth extracted but did not use the opiods. She did not have any side effects.

Does anyone have experience using Exparel with wisdom teeth removal? It is an inject-able, long lasting local anesthetic that is supposed to help with pain and to avoid opioids. It seems that people either find it helpful or aren't sure whether it helped. Interested in anyone's experience of whether it helped and if there were any side effects.
