At our private, the class president was also a 4.0, 1600 kid. Going to Harvard.

this is the key. Class President is elected and you can't be an ass to get that job, but it's not the most prestigious position in the school.

Agreed. At our private, when the president is a sports standout or top of the class, then he/she generally goes to a Harvard or Williams type school. When the president is just the outgoing, very popular kid, then he/she has ended up at kind of middle of the road schools. It doesn’t seem to sway anything

at worse, they end up at Georgetown, BC, ND. even if only top 35%.

DS's school is unusual and has a very strange admissions profile since most students take a similar amount of high rigor courses and grade distribution is pretty tight. Typically the class president is not ranked (only top 10% ranked) and end up at a T20. The best people are those right below the top ranked, who weren't obsessed with grades all of college and have extensive ECs. The top tend to have mediocre admission anywhere from an ivy to a t50.

Class President not very prestigious position at our school. But a nice thing to have, for sure.

Head of Debate is and that kid goes to an Ivy if they want, even if top 15% of class. IMO, someone below top 15% doesnt get that gig.

It doesn't matter unless the grades are very top. You're not going to get into HYP unhooked unless you're top 15% of the class at STA, NCS, Sidwell, etc. Being class president doesn't compensate for grades.

At my kids school, class president went to U of Texas, valedictorian to Rice, salutatorian
to Texas A&M.

Then we had a top 5% kid to Harvard and a top 10% kid to Princeton….. oh well

from our HS, brown will take top school leadership if gpa is in the neighborhood and you go early

Sometimes HYP. Fallback might be ND. (Duke only if GPA is over 3.9 which is top 15%, they seem more conscious of GPA than H or Y. P can be too).

The highest prestige position is in an academic adjacent area (ie debate, MUN, robotics kinda thing) so it really shows leadership plus brains.
