No one said anything about picking a school, so not sure why you're bringing this up.

You don’t even have a college aged kid? Then why do you care what DCUM thinks?

Drop DC from the UM.

+1. It's this. In actual DC, people are still Ivy focused. But in the online world of DCUM, it's not that way because lots of non-DC people are posting.

Why are people in DC obsessed with ivies?

They’re really not

Then the comment is bunk.

For the non-conservative crowd, more midwest schools. A lot of UChicago, Carleton, Umich talk. Surprisingly, for such a conservative group of people here, Notre Dame is hated on this forum.

I personally think we have a robust community of people who hate HPYSM and are looking for alternatives. A lot less techy than other college forums and more social science/humanities students here. With more national presence, I hope DCUM gets over its fear of the west coast and their colleges, because they’re very very strong.

I don’t really get that impression. A lot of talk about the Claremont colleges, Carleton, Davidson, and even Oberlin/Kenyon. There’s a thread rn boosting about Reed, Occidental, and Whitman, which years ago, people wouldn’t have interacted at all with.

DCUM has changed a lot from when I first joined. A lot less HYPSM talk, more LAC/WASP talk, and a much bigger presence for the w&m community. These are all very positive changes, and I’m interested in what others think will be the future colleges that DCUM looks into, especially with the political mess that is harming our top colleges?
