At the Heart of It: Ordinary People, Extraordinary Lives
by Walt Harrington

This non-fiction book might be available from a library. It had a touching long article about a mom, her high school/college age daughter/and mother, originally published in the WaPo Sunday Magazine. It really spoke to me. The book is available used on the internet. It's not specifically about problems but more about different generations interacting.

The journalist is a wonderful writer. He has other books.

NP. Love Roz Chast. My favorite cartoon of hers is "Pollyanna in Hell".

But, I don't believe she had kids so an open face sandwich.

She has at least one kid, Nina, whom the mentions.

I think she has two, but I only remember Nina.

The Usual Desire to Kill is about two middle aged daughters and their aging parents - it’s set in France. Not sure it’s inspiring, exactly!

I second this one. It helped me get through a very difficult time with my dying parent, and it allowed me to find the humorous moments in an awful situation.

I can't think of a book about a man who is a caretaker for multiple generations.
But I came up with a few ideas:

Tuesdays with Morrie. Which is about a young man who spends Tuesdays with his former college professor, The former college professor has a terminal illness. The author recorded their visits and later wrote a book about some of the wisdoms of life the older man shared with him.

The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry. Which is set in the UK. It is about a newly retired man whose wife nags him constantly. One day, he has a letter to mail. Once he gets to his mailbox, he decides to keep walking 500 miles to deliver the letter in person.

Grisham has written a few non legal books. One of them is called Bleachers. Which is about a bunch of young men who gather for the funeral of their former coach.

Hi! hoping the book squad can recommend a book for my mentor. He is presently the glue of his family between very aging parents, fighting siblings, and his college aged kids. He always gives awesome books for any situation I’ve been in (we’ve worked together for 15 years) and I would love to repay the favor. He said yesterday, “dang, I wish I had a book to see how others have navigated it all”. Everything I’ve found has been too touchy feely. Any recommendations? He’s a voracious non fiction guy, late 50s, repressed Irish catholic Bostonian.
Thanks!
