This person understands the term. ^ As did one other poster at 17:15.

Surprised how out of touch most people are on this site with almost everything.

PP at 17:15 here.

Yeah, it's pretty wild how the people on this post don't know that "neckbeard" is a very specific insult that has nothing to do with the posted pics. And when we explain it, they just keep rambling with this Thoreau-had-a-beard-like-that-but-I-hate-it stuff.

Anyhoo -- yeah, the beards in the pics look weird, but that's just fashion. It changes. No one has worn a beard like that for about 200 years or so. The derogatory term "neckbeard" is only going to apply to someone who has never put anywhere near that much effort into their appearance.

I've only seen that on Amish or Mennonite people.

Neckbeards were surprisingly popular back in the 19th century actually. I think the best example around this time was Henry David Thoreau if you look up a picture of him. A few presidents and other leaders had this style back around that time and I think it's funny how this facial hair now has an extremely negative view compared to that time.

Talking about the beard itself as long as you're trimming it and knowing where to shave it correctly, the neckbeard can actually look good on you. It's mostly how the internet perceived the word "neckbeard".🤷‍♂️

Yes! I totally agree. I find it totally incomprehensible that good looking men suddenly decided to look like the pictures of the dead presidents hanging above the classroom chalkboards of my childhood. I always got them confused with each other, because they all looked the same - scraggly.

Even if you meant by the facial style itself, neckbeards look ugly. While I think it’s fine to have some facial hair around your neck you shouldn’t have almost if not all your facial hair in the neck area (especially if it’s growing below your Adam’s apple)

I don't think you are understanding what a "neckbeard" is when people are using that term.

It refers to a particular type of person, not the type of beard you posted here. That type of beard looks a little weird to me, but it is not the "neckbeard" people are referring to when they use "neckbeard" as a derogatory term.

I still notice that neckbeards are one of the most unpopular facial hair for men, but I never knew that with the younger generation that term has become more negatively associated to describe someone who is “nerdy” or a “geek”. I might have seen a few people have this style but it kind of makes me wonder what’s with the hate.

Here are some examples of this facial hair style.
